Please don’t take my sunshine away is the perfect background music for Memories of Long Island and the Sea. Talking to fishermen, back from a fishing trip, views of the water, sitting on a bench watching the sun go down over the sea.
It is a beautiful area. I can almost smell the sea, feel the breeze on my face and the sand between my toes.
The Montauk Manor was built in 1926, both elevators being original to the building. Both elevators were installed as traction, probably by OTIS. Then, around 1960, both elevators were completely modernized with OTIS “pre-lexan” fixtures and converted to hydraulics.
Then in 2008, ThyssenKrupp modernized this elevator (buttons only) and left the other one original. The Montauk Manor was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The building may have been a hotel previously. Today, it operates as a luxurious hotel/condominium resort.
Montauk Manor is highly recommend for a visit. Even if you don’t stay here, please stop to admire its beauty.
