Montauk Manor Vintage “ThyssenKrotis” Hydraulic Elevator

Posted on 03 September 2010 by admin

Now this was a treat.

The Montauk Manor was built in 1926, both elevators being original to the building. Both elevators were installed as traction, probably by OTIS. Then, around 1960, both elevators were completely modernized with OTIS “pre-lexan” fixtures and converted to hydraulics.

Then in 2008, ThyssenKrupp modernized this elevator (buttons only) and left the other one original. The Montauk Manor was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The building may have been a hotel previously. Today, it operates as a luxurious hotel/condominium resort.

The Montauk Shootout

Posted on 17 August 2010 by admin

A setting, a video camera an idea, and a computer is all you need to make awesome movies.

But two people started going at it in a shootout, i feel like I have seen these people before, they are handsome “random” people.

Clever video editing, pity its so violent.

Senator Gillibrand took notes as veteran fishermen, captains, and marina owners talked about the injustices dealt them through federal regulations. Most of the time, the senator listened, other then asking questions, and offering to try to drive changes.

Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman and East Hampton Town Supervisor Bill Wilkinson also attended in support of local fishermen.

Montauk Residents Start Recall Movement

Posted on 25 July 2010 by admin

A number of Montauk residents are not happy with elected officials. The group consists of around 100 people and they are considering recalling their votes for East Hampton Town Supervisor Bill Wilkinson and Councilwoman Theresa Quigley.

The group apparently doesn’t know yet how they can recall their votes, but they know it has been done in California. They believe neither Wilkinson, nor Quigley are working in the best interests of the residents who voted for them.

At issue are proposals to sell the town docks in Montauk and the Fort Pond House.

Quigley says the charges are unfair, and based on misinformation. The board aims to reduce taxes, as they stated before being elected, and they are consolidating and considering selling assets.

One of the properties at issue is the Fort Pond House, which she says was on a Planning Department list, but that it is not specifically targeted by the board.

The board does not seem to have a plan, it is not consulting with residents and it appears to be taking very shortsighted decisions that make little impact on budget problems.
